Reports of transfer of motor vehicle tag, 1939-[ongoing].

Upon the sale or legal repossession of a motor vehicle, the new owner must file within ten days a report on the change of ownership to the probate judge. The probate judge must then notify the Dept. of Revenue and the issuing authority (if from another county) of the reported change (see Ala. Code, 40-12-260 [1975]). The series consists of forms used to effect the transfer of vehicle ownership and records the tag number, date of transfer, a vehicle description, and information about the previous and new owners. This record began in 1939 and continues to the present.
